On the April 1st Consolidated Election ballot, Warren County voters passed the Warren County School Facility Tax proposition, authorizing Warren County school districts to utilize school facility tax funds for a School Resource Officer or mental health professionals. At this time, United Superintendent Tom Hawkins informs the school district is not looking at adding a School Resource Officer:

“United is unique in the fact that we are so spread out. Between the West and North campuses, it is 18 miles. Between the North and South campus, I believe it is 11 miles and between the South and West campuses it is 12 miles. Usually School Resource Officers are situated at the High School because that is where a lot of the activity is, but I also understand by talking with the local county board members that sometimes we are a little spread out with or coverage with deputies and we would be taking a deputy if we were to pay for one, which we would have to. Right now, we just don’t see the need with United. Our deputies, whenever we call, they are right on the spot anyway. It is not that we won’t ever have one in the future, it is just at this time we don’t want to take away from the county resources.”

Meanwhile, United High School will host their graduation ceremony at 3pm on Sunday, May 18th inside the Fieldhouse.
