Traffic Stop Leads to Juvenile Arrest

On May 13th, at approximately 2:24 pm, Officers from the Burlington Police Department conducted a traffic stop in the area of Woodlawn/Division Street regarding a traffic violation. During the course of the traffic stop, Officers smelled the odor of marijuana from inside the vehicle. Upon the occupants exiting the vehicle, Officers observed a bulge in the pocket area of one of the juveniles’ pants.

Officers located a loaded firearm in the waistband of the juveniles’ pants, along with a baggie of marijuana and a vape. Officers ran the serial number of the firearm through the database and learned that it was reported stolen.

The juvenile was detained and transported to the Burlington Police Department, where a guardian was contacted.

The juvenile was charged with Person Ineligible to Carry Dangerous Weapons (Serious Misdemeanor), Possession of Controlled Substance-Marijuana 2nd (Serious Misdemeanor), Possession of Tobacco, and Theft 4th Degree (Serious Misdemeanor).

The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
