Jamieson Community Center Executive Director Nancy Mowen informs they are currently serving over 650 families across their offered services, which have greatly increased in need and demand:
“We have seen a large increase in demand. Our food pantry visits are up 40 percent over the same period last year and about 25 percent of our families are first time visitors. Our thrift store sales are also up, so we definitely have more traffic with the new location, but I am looking at the increase in the families that we have seen just in the past few months, and it is a large number. We had more than 200 families that came for the first time this year between March and May. Senior nutrition has had an eleven percent increase since last year. Currently we are serving more than 650 families.”
On June 3rd, 4th, and 5th, the annual Halfway to Freezing for Food event out front of Save A Lot Food Store in Monmouth will be taking place from 10 am to 2 pm each day, broadcasting live on Sunny 97.7 WMOI, AM 1330/FM 95.7 WRAM, and online at radiomonmouth.com. Monetary and food donations collected throughout the event benefit the Jamieson Community Center and Roseville Helping Hands Food Pantries.
