Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending May 18, 2025:
The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is sophomore girls track and field athlete, Angela Harwood. Angela had four top-3 finishes at the Pam Foley Invitational in Galva early in the week. She was 2nd in both the 400 meter dash and 100 meter hurdles. Angela was also 3rd in the 200 meter dash and 3rd in the long jump and placed 8th later in the week in the same event at the sectional meet.
The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is sophomore softball player, Aubrey Bainter. In three games last week, Aubrey went 4-for-9 at the plate, with a pair of rbis and a double. For the season, she leads the team in a number of categories, including batting average, hits, doubles and runs batted in.
The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is freshman baseball player, Colton Spence. Colton is one a number of underclassmen having nice seasons, giving the Heat something to look forward to in the future. He was lights-out on the mound in a Lincoln Trail Conference loss to a solid Ridgewood ball club. Colton held the Spartans to one earned run in five innings on the mound and also had a hit in the ballgame.
The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is junior boys track and field athlete, Demetrius Watson. Demetrius scored a pair of top-4 finishes at the Western Big Six Conference championship meet at Geneseo. Individually, he crossed the finish line in 4th in the grueling 300 meter hurdle race. Demetrius was also a part of the 3rd place finishing 4×400 meter relay team.
The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is junior softball player, Avery Stegall. Avery is heating up at the perfect time with the postseason upon us. In a busy, 6-game week, she batted .381, with two extra-base hits. Avery contributed to a (4-2) week for the Tornadoes by driving in seven total runs.
