Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending May 25, 2025:
The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is junior baseball player, Landyn Angelo. Landyn’s big day on the pitching mound was nearly enough to send the Titans to the regional semifinals. He pitched 6.1 innings, giving up just one hit and no runs, with 11 strikeouts in a loss to Mercer County. Landyn also went 1-for-3 at the plate and for the season, led the team in home runs, extra bases and rbis.
The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is senior track and field athletes Rosie and Katie Flynn and Emrick Huston and sophomore Callie Hall. These four young ladies brought home three medals from the IHSA State Finals. They finished 2nd place in the 4×200 meter relay, 3rd in the 4×400 relay and 5th in the 4×100. In placing 3rd in the 4×400, they set a new school record by an amazing five seconds and missed a 1st place medal by just one second.
The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is sophomore softball player, Addy Burrell. Addy helped the Heat to their 4th straight regional title with an outstanding week at the plate. She went 3-for-4 and garnered a team-leading five rbis. Four of Addy’s runs driven in were in the semifinal win over United.
The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is senior baseball player, Tyree Taylor. In three games last week, Tyree went 5-for-9 at the plate. He also had a team-leading five rbis that had a big hand in two victories. Tyree was consistent all season long, batting over .300 and only striking out nine times in 129 plate appearances.
The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is junior boys track and field athlete, Carter Stroot. Carter will run in an amazing three different events at the IHSA State Finals in Charleston, Illinois. At the sectional meet in Kewanee, he placed 1st in the 100, 200 and 400 meter dashes. Earlier this season, Carter claimed the Lincoln Trail Conference championships in all three of those events, as well.
