Pursuing the formation of a new state is the mission of New Illinois, a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization educating Illinoisans on this right under the United States Constitution. On Tuesday, June 24th at 6:30 pm, members of New Illinois will be hosting an event at the Warren County Courthouse in the 3rd Floor Courtroom, which is open to the entire public to attend. Local Monmouth Attorney Rich Whitman explains the topics of discussion:
“Topics that will be discussed are number one, what is New Illinois, obviously it is a group designed to form a new state without Cook County; what is the history in the United States of forming new states out of previously existing states; what is the procedure that we must go through to create a new state of Illinois that doesn’t include Cook County; what must we do at the county level, what must we do at the state level, and what must we do at the federal level. We will also discuss how many Illinois counties are already on board with this and have passed referendum to create the new state. We will discuss the advantages of having a new state of Illinois that does not have Cook County and what the dangers would be of remaining in the state that includes Cook County.”
