The IHSA boys track and field state finals weekend came to an end on Saturday with a local athletes bringing home medals. In class 1A, United High School sophomore Parker Tinkham took 7th in the high jump finals. Abingdon-Avon junior Carter Stroot had three chances to bring home some hardware heading into the weekend. He ended up making the finals in two of those three, placing 4th in the 200 meter dash and 8th in the 400 meter dash on Saturday. Two Mercer County relays placed 3rd in the state, in the 4×100 and 4×200 teams. In class 2A, Monmouth-Roseville had two athletes make the finals of the finals on Saturday. Senior Dame Thiobou ending up taking 10th in the shot put event and fellow senior Jackson Thomas was 10th in the discus. Monmouth-Roseville senior sprinter Maddox Clark participated in the 100 and 200 meter dashes in Friday’s preliminaries but placed 16th in the 100 and 31st in the 200 and did not qualify for Saturday’s finals. Galesburg senior Gilberto Lemus brought home a 6th place medal in the 2A shot put on Saturday.
