On June 4th, 2025 Knox County Sheriff’s Office responded to a disturbance that escalated into a riot at the Mary Davis Home Juvenile Detention Center. The riot resulted in injuries to four staff members and five juvenile detainees.

The incident began at approximately 7:35 PM, when a group of juveniles became combative. The situation quickly escalated, prompting an emergency response by facility staff and local law enforcement.

Four staff members sustained non-life-threatening injuries while attempting to regain control. Five juveniles were also injured during the altercation. All individuals were evaluated and treated by medical personnel on-site and, where necessary, transported to OSF St Mary’s hospital for further care.

The facility was secured and the incident was contained within. There is no current threat to the surrounding community. The safety and security of both staff and youth remain the top priority.

An internal investigation has been initiated and is being conducted in coordination with local law enforcement. Additional charges may be considered for those found to have instigated or participated in acts of violence.

We would like to thank Galesburg PD, Galesburg Fire Department, Knoxville PD, GHAS, and AOW for responding swiftly and professionally to a dangerous and unpredictable situation.

We are committed to maintaining a safe environment and will take all necessary actions to prevent further incidents.
