During Macomb’s Heritage Days, the Western Illinois Museum will host a special edition of their ‘Our Front Porch’ series on Saturday, June 28th at 1 pm. Macomb native and Pepperdine University Law Professor Thomas Stipanowich will be presenting on Abraham Lincoln, Local Hero:

“We will talk about some of the local cases and some of the things that he did as a lawyer, as well as a politician; and talk about the fact that Lincoln was very creative in the way that he would practice law. Today, one of the things that is a feature of my own practice is being a professional mediator and arbitrator. Back when Lincoln was practicing, we didn’t have all those professionals, but Lincoln did a lot of really creative experimenting with the use of arbitration. He would use it as a way of mediating client disputes.”

Stipanowich will also be discussing Abraham Lincoln’s visits to Macomb, where some believe helped lay the groundwork for his 1860 presidential campaign.
