Training is a large portion of being a first responder. The staff at the Monmouth Police Department is no different, as many officers underwent a variety of certifications and trainings this past month, informs Monmouth Police Chief Joe Switzer:

“Training is a big part of a daily task that all of us go through at the police department. Just in the month of May, we had two officers certified in using the radar gun, measuring speed; all officers received training on high-risk traffic stops, that is one of the state mandated trainings that we have to do. Several officers went through the standardized field sobriety testing and all officers received training on how to apply a tourniquet. That is a refresher, an annual thing that we go through. All the officers carry tourniquets and things to stop the bleed. Most of the time we are the first ones on the scene and if someone has some type of injury or wound, then we can apply those methods.”

During the month of May, the Monmouth Police Department made 65 arrests, issued 95 citations, dispatch handled 3,621 calls, officers responded to 1,626 calls, handled 24 accidents, the officers worked 18 grant hours, and the dispatch center dispatched a total of 3,195 calls across all agencies.
