With the storms that rolled through the local area Tuesday evening, it has been confirmed there was a tornado, informs Warren County Emergency Services Disaster Agency Director Casey Rexroat:
“The National Weather Service did confirm that it was a tornado, I believe an EF1 that came just on the east side of Monmouth, from the south to the east and up to the northeast part. I think there was quite a bit of damage northeast of town to a home and then farther out a machine shed lost a roof. So, there was quite a bit of damage through there and that is a big thing with power lines down after a storm. It is not something people think of when you are driving around, because of course everybody wants to go out and see what the damage is. You don’t always see those power lines; they are almost invisible on a wet road with all the debris mixed in with it.”
Always assume power lines are live. If you see a downed power line, keep a safe distance and call 911.
