Whether you are planting a tree, putting up a fence around your yard, or building an addition on your home, it is important to call JULIE at 811 before digging. Manager of Vegetation Management with Ameren Illinois Rick Johnson, reminds what the different colored flags and markings indicate in the yard:

“Yellow means natural gas pipeline and red is there for underground electric line. It is very important still to remember this, give yourself a tolerance zone. It is recommended to leave at least eighteen inches or more on either side of that marked line to have that buffer zone.”

The call to JULIE, which needs to be made at least two business days before digging, marks those buried lines preventing loss of power, costly repairs, and serious injuries.
