Results from the 4-H Cattle Show at the McDonough County Fair

Tuesday at the McDonough County Fair kicked off with the 4-H Cattle Show. 

4-H Heifer Show Results 

In the Angus Show, Macie Barlow and her heifer won Champion, and Zane Hoyt and his heifer won Reserve Champion. 

In the Simmental show, the Champion heifer was exhibited by Payton McGrew, and the Reserve Champion was exhibited by Nolan McGrew. 

Alana Knight exhibited both the Champion and Reserve Champion Hereford. Drew Creasey exhibited both the Champion and Reserve Champion Charolais. Masyn Riggins exhibited both the Champion and Reserve Champion Shorthorn. All other Breeds were won by Nash Lowderman. 

In the Crossbred Class, Tuck Lowderman exhibited the Champion heifer, and Masyn Riggins exhibited the Reserve Champion heifer. 

Creasey Wins Grand Champion Heifer

Following the breed classes, champions returned to the ring for the Overall Grand Champion Overall Heifer, punching their ticket to The Throwdown, A Western Illinois Showdown. The Overall Champion title went to Drew Creasey with her Charolais heifer. Reserve Overall Grand Champion went to Tuck Lowderman with his crossbred heifer. 

“We’ve shown Charolais my whole life. It’s kind of an odd breed to like show, but we all love it, and I love the family that we’ve built growing up with Charolais,” shares Creasey. “My dad grew up showing Charolais. He saw one in the pasture, all black cows, and there was one white cow. He’s like, ‘I’m showing that one. ’ And then here we are showing Charolais to this day.”

Creasey is a member of the Scotland Clever Clover 4-H Club in McDonough County.

4-H Steer Show 

The 4-H Steer show kicked off with the Lightweight classes. The Champion and Reserve Champion Lightweight Steer was exhibited by Mayan Riggins. In the Mid-Weight Steer Class, Zane Hoyt and his steer were Champion, and Macy McMillan was Reserve Champion. Then in the Heavyweight category, Penson Welsh and his steer were named Campio,n and Payton McGrew exhibited the Reserve Champion Heavyweight Steer. 

Welsh Wins Grand Champion Steer

Following the weight classes, champions returned to the ring for the Overall Grand Champion Overall Steer, punching their ticket to The Throwdown, A Western Illinois Showdown. The Overall Champion titlewent to  Peyton Welsh with his heavyweight steer. Reserve Overall Grand Champion went to Payton McGrew with his heavyweight steer. 

“I was kind of nervous to show him, but he did pretty well. He set up pretty good and stuff,” says Welsh. “ My cousins have taught me a lot on how to show and stuff we used to go out in the yard, and they teach me my showmanship skills and stuff like that.” 

Welsh is a member of the Blansinsville Blue Ribbons 4-H Club.
