Monday morning at the McDonough County Fair kicked off with the Junior Gilt and Barrow Show.
Breeding Gilt Show Results
Kylie McGrew of Sciota earned the Champion title of the Purebred Breeding Gilt show with her Hampshire gilt, and Mason Turner of Greenview earned Reserve Champion with his Berkshire gilt.
In the Crossbred Gilt show, Kyle McGrew and her crossbred were named champion, with Nora Hoge of Good Hope and her crossbred being the Reserve Champion.
McGrew Wins Grand Champion of Gilt Show
The Overall Champion of the Breeding Gilt show went to Kylie McGrew with her crossbred gilt.
“I’m very happy. This is my first year. I felt like I was the boss when I first came here,” shares McGrew. “It’s funny, but it’s just once I get in that ring. I’m serious. I’m ready, ready to go!”

McGrew is a member of the Goal Diggers 4-H Club in McDonough County, where she says she shows pigs, takes part in crafts, and farms.
Barrow Show Results
The Junior Swing Show continued with the Barrow Show. Mason Turner of Greenview won Champion Purebred Barrow with his Berkshire barrow. Hailey Turner of Greenview earned Reserve Champion Purebred Barrow with her Hereford barrow.
In the Crossbred Gilt show, Nolan Hoge of Good Hope and his crossbred were named champion, with Nora Hoge and her crossbred being the Reserve Champion.
Hoge Wins Grand Champion of Barrow Show
The Overall Champion of the Barrow show went to Nolan Hoge and his crossbred barrow.
“The judge really liked the animals we brought to him today, and he told us that they look really good, and everything that we’ve been doing is working,” says Hoge. “Obviously, he’s critiqued us in some spots that maybe we need to be better on. Like, he really critiqued the back legs of a couple of animals, and we understand where that comes from, and we’re going to try to make them better.”
