On the first day of the Farm Progress Show, Governor JB Pritzker visited the Illinois Soybean Association (ISA) and IL Corn, “Your Demand Destination” tent to discuss issues impacting farmers across Illinois.
Illinois Soybean Association discussed two very important issues with him—the estate tax and support for biofuels, including concerns with how proposed low carbon fuel standard (LCFS) legislation could impact soy in both short term and long-term market participation.
On estate taxes, the Governor stated his understanding of the problems faced by farmers with the estate tax and urged ISA to work with members of the General Assembly to find a workable solution on estate tax.
ISA also talked to the Governor about his support of soy biofuels and the B20 legislation that he signed into law. ISA then expressed concerns that proposed LCFS could undo the gains that soy has made in Illinois fuel.
Under Governor Pritzker, Illinois has held steady policy for biodiesel by slowly increasing the average blend from B11 to B20 and providing markets for the oil from over 100 million bushels of soybeans.
“I greatly appreciated the opportunity to talk directly to Governor Pritzker,” said Dwayne Anderson, ISA District 3 Director. “I felt like he understood ISA’s concerns about the importance of getting the estate tax on the right path and keeping biofuels leading the way forward for Illinois. I look forward to continuing to engage on these important issues that impact Illinois soybean farmers’ profitability and future.”
