With opening day just over 24 hours away, the preseason football IHSA AP Poll was released yesterday. Several Monmouth-area conference schools found themselves in the top-10 or received votes in the 8-class lists.
In class 1A, perennial power Lena-Winslow was the overwhelming favorite, getting all nine first-place votes. Camp Point Central is #2, with LincolnLand Conference teams Stark County and Annawan/Wethersfield receiving votes.
In class 2A, its Maroa-Forsyth getting 7 of the 9 first-place votes. Farmington and Rockridge tied for 4th. The Elmwood/Brimfield co-op and Mercer County received votes.
A pair of TRAC teams were in the class 3A list, where Byron is on top of the poll. Princeton checks in at #6, with Monmouth-Roseville receiving a vote.
As far as class 4A, last year’s 3A champ Lombard Montini is #1. Geneseo and Macomb each got one vote in 4A.
Besides Geneseo, three more Western Big Six Conference schools also got some attention from the voters. Quincy is #9 in class 6A, with Sterling receiving votes in class 5A and Moline getting one vote in class 7A.
