Mr. James A. Winkler, 86, of Henderson, Illinois died at 2:25 p.m. Friday, August 22, 2025, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg, Illinois.

James was born February 5, 1939, in Peoria, Illinois to Richard and Una Margaret (Owen) Winkler, Sr. 

Surviving are two sons, Allen (and Sherri McGlown) Winkler of Galesburg and Jim (and Kim) Winkler of Alexis, five daughters, a sister, Sandra Bertelsen of Alexis, several grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Richard “Duke” Winkler, Jr. 

James farmed in the Alexis area most of his life.  He also owned and operated his family business, Winkler Standard Gas Station and later Winkler Towing Company in Galesburg.  He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, boating at Oak Run, and shooting at the gun range.  He also liked watching Fox News and old western and action movies.  He was a man who didn’t kept still long, he loved to work. 

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 28, 2025, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel.  A funeral will follow the visitation at 11:00 a.m. at the chapel.  Chaplain Jordan Knight will officiate.  Burial will be in Alexis Cemetery, Alexis, Illinois.  Memorials may be made to the family.  Online condolences may be shared at www.h-p-w.com
