A new Harassment Law is in place, providing people to feel more safe Monmouth Police Chief Joe Switzer explains:
“Stalkers use emotional distressing behaviors to get at their victims and the stalking; they call that harassment. It causes emotional distress, and it includes legal definitions of that emotional distress. It is also a concerning issue on college campuses. One of the stats that is given is that 18- to 23-year-olds are experiencing the highest stalking rates, women and minority college students being at a higher risk. 41 percent of undergraduate students have experienced tech facilitated stalking, according to the University of Illinois. So, what this law does is bolster some of the definitions of that emotional distress.”
Chief Switzer went on to stress the importance of reporting the harassment if you are experiencing repeated calls, home visits, and being followed in public spaces.
