In efforts to help keep communities healthy, OSF HealthCare offers Community Gardens on campuses across the state. These gardens not only provide opportunities to gain gardening knowledge but also offer education about nutrition and food preparation.

Tyler Sherwood, OSF HealthCare Gifts Officer, shares that the newest of these Community Gardens can be found in Galesburg on the St. Mary’s Medical Center Campus.

“It’s just about an acre of land, complete with a number of fruits and veggies. We’ve even partnered with the Riverbend Food Bank to ensure that the produce is touching community members in need, kind of on a wide scale, throughout Knox and Warren Henderson County,” shares Sherwood. “You can stop by for freshly picked complimentary produce every Wednesday, which is held from 9am to noon at the Community Garden table behind St Mary’s Medical Center. Any extras are then donated to our local food pantries through our partnership with the Riverbed Food Bank.”

The Community Garden at OSF St. Mary Medical Center is part of a partnership with the Galesburg FFA chapter.
