The United High School Band was recognized in the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Ravinia magazine, shares Superintendent Tom Hawkins:
“Last spring, our Band Director Madeline Wood, through contacts at the Illinois Music Association, made contact with a composer from Chicago. Our band, our United High School Band, was the first to play that piece. We performed it at our music showcase that we had in the spring. It actually got highlighted in the Chicago Symphony’s Ravinia magazine. The artist was highlighted and United was mentioned as far as being the first band to play one of his pieces.”
The United School District began another school year last week, with just under 1,000 students currently enrolled.
