Last Friday, the West Central Heat traveled to Ridgewood for a pivotal 8-Man Football West Division matchup against the Spartans. The Heat didn’t come out of the gates the way they hoped, falling behind 20-0 just over a quarter into the game. West Central finally broke through before halftime, cutting the deficit to 20-6 at the break. The second half was all the Heat. West Central erupted for 30 points over the next two quarters, taking a 36-20 lead with under four minutes to play. The Heat score 36 unanswered points on their way to a 36-26 victory. Three rushers nearly hit the century mark for West Central. Graham Kelly led the way with 86 yards and two touchdowns. Head Coach Jason Kirby says it was the best two and a half quarters of football his squad has played so far.
With the win, West Central improves to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in West Division play, while Ridgewood drops to 2-2 and 1-1 in the West. This week the Heat will celebrate Homecoming, hosting the West Prairie/Southeastern co-op (0-4). Festivities kick off tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. with a tailgate for students and athletes.
