Construction on West Harlem Avenue in Monmouth continues to move forward, despite some setbacks that have caused delays, informs Mayor Rod Davies:
“They have run into a number of underground issues that were previously unknown. I think they found some buried fiber optic to the hospital, so it took them two weeks to come in and move their fiber optic and I think they ran into some high-pressure natural gas lines that were not in the exact level or location. We had to work around those. We have asked IDOT, the Illinois Department of Transportation, to allow us to work on other phases of the project, but they are very insistent that we need to get the underground done first before we can move on.”
Meanwhile, construction in Downtown Monmouth has been making great leaps with the completion of the brick laying down Market Alley and the street resurfacing process to begin soon, reports Mayor Davies:
“I think we pretty much have Market Alley wrapped up. I think in the next week or two we are supposed to have the new umbrellas. Also, the railings and that will be coming in another two to three weeks and then they will start the milling and asphalting process.”
An ornamental arch will also be installed in front of Market Alley with the City of Monmouth logo.
