The home of the Illinois football team is getting a new name. The university announced that alumnus Larry Gies made a 100-million-dollar gift to the Illinois Division of Intercollegiate Athletics, the largest in DIA history. With the contribution, Illinois’ Memorial Stadium will now be known as Gies Memorial Stadium. Gies made his fortune as the founder and CEO of Madison Industries. His name also adorns the University’s College of Business.
