The Knox County Health Department administration announces that the Department has been awarded $120,000 from the Illinois Department of Human Services for a new grant titled Better Birth Outcomes – Comprehensive (BBO-C). The Better Birth Outcomes program aims to reduce maternal and infant morbidity, particularly among those with racial/ethnic disparities.
“Knox County Health Department is pleased to receive this grant award and use it towards strengthening critical support and culturally responsive care to Knox County birthing to six months families to help them have healthy starts and the opportunity to achieve their full health potential,” said Michele Gabriel, Public Health Administrator at the Knox County Health Department.
Better Birth Outcomes provides comprehensive, one-on-one nursing assessment to pregnant, and postpartum individuals and their infants. The program helps connect families to a myriad of medical, social, and other benefits and supports available in our community. The program puts an emphasis on the importance of a medical home. Staff will assist clients in meeting their family’s health and wellness goals and promote the reduction of maternal and infant morbidity and mortality. The BBO-C program provides services to clients throughout pregnancy and the first six months after to residents who meet the eligibility criteria.
