Monmouth College’s Gavin Carpenter Named MWC Defensive Performer of the Week

MONMOUTH, ILL. (09/08/2025) Monmouth College sophomore linebacker Gavin Carpenter (Coal City, Illinois) was named Midwest Conference Defensive Performer of the Week on Tuesday after the first football game of the season.

Carpenter had 14 tackles against No. 9 Wartburg on Saturday, including four tackles for loss. He added a sack in the first quarter and forced a fumble in the third quarter. Carpenter made his first career start in the game and set career highs in each category. He leads the Midwest Conference in tackles and TFL and he accounted for 11 lost yards by the Knights. Nationally, Carpenter ranks 5th in Division III for TFL and 15th in overall tackles.

Carpenter and the Scots host Lawrence at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Midwest Conference opener. Saturday is also the home opener and Family Weekend.
