The Monmouth Fire Department has a new training facility. Located at 711 S. 3rd Street, Monmouth Fire Chief Casey Rexroat says this facility will be a great hands on training for the department.
“We really needed something, some kind of hands on training. You know, we always look for these structures in the community to be able to train in, to make the training more realistic and things like that. You know, we often send our guys, our firefighters, to training outside of the department, where they do have those resources and things like that. But, we thought it would be great to have our own training prop dedicated to our, you know, our area departments in town. And so this is something we started working on. I think it was actually a year and a half ago. We got this idea. Actually, Captain Osborne came to me with it that, you know, fortunately, we got this idea for the using those shipping containers. A lot of fire departments use those to make this training prop, and now we’re able to. We’ve got it built and ready to use. It’s just a great thing for not only our department, but all the departments. We’re going to invite other departments to town to train with us, because we’re always working together, and it’s going to be a great thing for the community and for our fire department.”
The fire department will burn in the barrels in next to the containers which the smoke and heat will then be funneled into the containers, reducing visibility for firefighters making the training realistic.
