The Monmouth Fire Department has received a new 27-foot fire safety simulator trailer with hands-on tools for all ages, including a fire extinguisher trainer, allowing safe and effective fire prevention education for the local community, informs Fire Chief Casey Rexroat:
“We had applied for a grant through the FEMA Fire Prevention Safety Program and were awarded that grant to purchase a fire safety trailer. It took a little over a year because the turnaround on them is so long, but it is a great thing. It is such a better learning tool for people of all ages. We have things for kids, there are things in there for adults to learn with, and seniors. It will be great for our fire department to be able to teach people about fire safety, fire prevention. We are very thankful to be able to get that grant to purchase this,” states Rexroat.
“We do our fire prevention talks every October anyway, but this will just take it to the next level and be able to teach those kids and give them hands-on training, which they will retain that knowledge a lot better,” Rexroat adds.
Along with providing safety education to the community, the Monmouth Fire Department will also come install free smoke detectors in your home. For more information, call 309-734-8428.
