The Galesburg Community Chorus will host a Festival of Voices, featuring performances by several area choirs, at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 25 at First Presbyterian Church, 101 N. Prairie St., in Galesburg. Admission to the concert is free, though a freewill offering will be taken to benefit Blessings in a Backpack, an organization that provides food for elementary school children.
The festival, part of the Community Chorus’ 80th anniversary season, will include performances by the Lombard Middle School Choir (Danna Cory, director), the Galesburg Junior High School Choir (Danna Cory, director), the Galesburg High School Treble Singers (Lucy Rieke, director), the Knox College Choir (Bram Wayman, director), the Monmouth College Chorale (Tim Pahel, director), and the Galesburg Community Chorus (Tim Pahel, director). Approximately 230 singers will perform in the concert, and all will join together at the end for a performance of “Let There Be Peace On Earth,” arranged by Keith Christopher.
Community Chorus Director Tim Pahel, in his 25th year directing the group, says “This festival is a wonderful way for us to celebrate choral music in our community. Singing in a choir is something that can happen at all ages and walks of life, and we hope that the younger singers will be inspired to keep singing and make choral singing a lifelong pursuit.”
The concert is sponsored by OSF Health Care. Additional support comes from Galesburg Community Foundation and the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency.
The Galesburg Community Chorus, directed by Dr. Tim Pahel, is the oldest community music organization in the Galesburg area and is currently celebrating its 80th anniversary.
