Mr. Larry J. Brower, 91, of Galesburg, Illinois died at 7:58 a.m. Saturday, October 11, 2025, at the Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville, Illinois.
He was born February 19, 1934, in Hartley, Iowa to Dick and Hattie (Moehler) Brower. He married Carolyn A. Hayes, on November 25, 1954, in Burlington, Iowa. She preceded him in death, after 60 years of marriage, on February 4, 2015.
Surviving are three sons, David (and Sarah) Brower of Anderson, South Carolina, Jeffrey (and Tammy) Brower of Hamilton, Illinois, and Gregory Brower of Jefferson City, Missouri, a daughter, Kristine (and Mark) Peterson of Galesburg, nine grandchildren, Katie, Michael, Ben, Daniel J., Nichole, Scott, Alexander, and Megan, and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, Daniel Brower, and five sisters.
Larry graduated from Burlington High School, Burlington, Iowa in 1952. He was a traveling salesman his whole life for Drake Hardware in Burlington, Quincy Hardware, and Big Husky. He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Galesburg. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Chicago Cubs fan. In his free time, Larry was a frequent customer of Sully’s Irish Pub, Perkins, and Sidetrax Bar and Grill all in Galesburg.
As Larry requested, cremation will be accorded. No service is planned. Private burial will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Burlington with his wife, Carolyn.
