(Sherrard, Ill). Fresh off a dominating statement win in Princeton last weekend, the Monmouth-Roseville Titans football team was on the road to take on another Tigers team, this time doing battle with a long time rival in Sherrard.

It wouldn’t take long for the Titans to get this week’s scoring party started, as their opening drive took just two plays before Lars Bergren ripped off a 48 yard score. After a Sherrard punt, M-R would put together a more typical Titans drive, grinding their way down the field and eventually finding the endzone on a 3 yard carry from Landon Montroy. Tigers quarterback Carter Brown, a reliable big play threat, sparked their offense with a long 60 yard run, leading to a 3 yard touchdown from Landon Clark to cut the Titans lead in half at the end of 1.

Facing a critical fourth down and 3 deep in Sherrard territory, the Titans would answer back with a passing touchdown, as quarterback Clay Casteel hit Nick Huston for a 12 yard score. Rounding out the second half, Sherrard would be forced to punt, while Monmouth-Roseville’s offense drained the final minutes of the half on their final drive, scoring once again with Montroy from 3 yards out to take a 28-7 lead into the break.

Needing a score to keep themselves within striking distance, the Sherrard offense pieced together a nice drive out of the locker room, eventually finding the endzone through the air on a 7 yard touchdown pass from Brown to Harrison Curry. The Titans would once again have an answer however, driving down the field to end the third quarter up 35-13 with a 12 yard touchdown run from Nick Huston. In the final quarter of play, the M-R defense would tighten up, not giving up another score in the game, while the offense added two more touchdowns, both by Nick Huston to reach the game’s final score of 49-13.

In the statbook for the Titans, Nick Huston rushed for 128 yards and three scores on 18 carries, he also added a receiving touchdown. Lars Bergren rattled off 133 yards and a score on 19 attempts, Landon Montroy scampered for 84 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries, Elijah Noel knocked through all 7 of his extra point attempts, while Clay Casteel completed all three of his passes with a touchdown pass in a solid all around effort for the Titans. With the win Monmouth-Roseville improves to a 6-0 start for the second straight season, and will look to keep the season perfect next Friday night at home against Spring Valley Hall.
