On a balmy but sunny afternoon local business owners, city employees and other members of the downtown Monmouth community gathered at Market Alley for the ribbon cutting and the official presentation of the public square beautification project.  Mayor Rod Davies shared with the audience that the vision for the project has been in the making for about 10 years and it finally came to fruition this past few years.   Mayor Davies thanked Sal Garza, the West Central Senior Regional Manager with the Department of Commerce, Porter Brothers Construction, Hutchinson Engineering, Senator Mike Halpin, Representative Dan Swanson, the city employees and especially the downtown business owners for their assistance and input on this project.  The project included a complete overhaul of the underground infrastructure of the public square, a new Market Alley sign, new sidewalks, brick accents, new crosswalks, new benches, new lighting and new planters.   Porter Brothers Construction will continue to work on the striping for the downtown to finalize the nearly $3 million project of the downtown.
