The West Central Heat were on the road in Bushnell last Friday for an 8-Man West Division matchup with the Spartans. The Heat came out firing in the first quarter, powered by Aidan Garner, who found the end zone on runs of 59 and 5 yards, along with Cameron Robinson’s 15-yard score to take a 23-8 lead.
The second quarter was more of the same, as quarterback/defensive back Colton Spence took over. Spence scored on a pick-six, a 4-yard rushing touchdown, and connected with Cameron Robinson on a 35-yard touchdown pass right before halftime. The Heat led BPC 47-8 at the break.
Out of halftime, Spence wasted no time adding to his highlight reel in the second half, returning another interception for his second pick-six of the game. Robinson later punched in his third touchdown on a 14-yard run, sealing a 59-36 West Central victory, as the Heat improved to 7-1.
West Central now turns its attention to a huge showdown at home this Friday against the two-time defending state champion Amboy/LaMoille/Ohio co-op. Both teams enter the matchup at 7-1, making it a key game for playoff seeding.
Head Coach Jason Kirby says his players are ready for the challenge and shares a few keys heading into this big game:
This Friday will also be Senior Night for the Heat, with festivities starting around 6:15 and kickoff set for 7 p.m. in Biggsville.
