The deadline is quickly approaching for Jamieson Community Center’s Christmas Store, reports Executive Director Nancy Mowen:
“This year we are anticipating 500 children. People can still apply through November 26th, that is the hard deadline, through 3:30 pm on the 26th,” says Mowen.
“Families pay $5.00 per child to shop. For their $5.00, they get new clothing that we purchase at Kohl’s, the community supplies hats and gloves, a nice personal blanket, many of those are handmade. We have toys, Smithfield does a huge toy drive for that. The parents get to choose a large toy, a stocking stuffer, and then the Alexis Presbyterian Church, their women’s group collects books, so every child gets a new book,” Mowen adds.
Along with the Christmas Store through Jamieson Community Center, children’s names are place on the Angel Tree at Midwest Bank and Christmas baskets with a traditional holiday meal are available to qualifying families.
