The Galesburg/Monmouth-Roseville/United girls swimming co-op took part in a sectional meet in Pekin on Saturday. The co-op took 2nd place in the team competition, behind only Metamora. Long-time Galesburg head coach Ray VanHootegem was named the Swim Coach of the Year. Lone Monmouth-Roseville swimmer Hayden Johnson had a fantastic day. Here’s Monmouth-Roseville Athletic Director Jeremy Adolphson with a recap of another strong performance for the senior.
United High School freshman Izzy Feehan is also the lone Red Storm swimmer on the co-op. Individually, she placed 10th in the 200 IM and 13th in the 100 yard freestyle races. Her 200 freestyle relay team took 4th.
Galesburg’s Lily Furrow will participate in 3 events this weekend after taking 2nd place in the 50 and 100 freestyle races. Her time in both events was under the qualifying time. She will also swim a leg on the qualifying 400 yard freestyle relay team. Macie Nelson and Faith Warren from Galesburg will join Furrow and Johnson on that qualifying team.
West Central’s Becca Hinshaw qualified for the finals by winning the 50 freestyle race with a Pekin High School pool record time. She nearly qualified in the 100 yard freestyle but her third place time was merely .01 from the time needed to advance. The State Finals will take place on Friday and Saturday in Westmont, Illinois at the FMC Natatorium.
