On July 4th, 2026, the United States will celebrate its 250th birthday, marking the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. To celebrate, the American Legion has launched the USA 250 Challenge, encouraging all Americans to help promote physical fitness, mental wellness, and community service, reports Monmouth American Legion Adjutant Cheri Stanton:
“It started July the 4th of 2025 and it is going through July the 4th of 2026. The American Legion has a special program that they are working on that we are trying to encourage volunteerism again. So, what we would like to do is if anybody does any volunteer hours, send your name to the American Legion, the hours, and where you worked, and I will forward it on to headquarters. We are going to try and show everybody how many volunteer hours that Illinois does for our country.”
