Following the official ribbon cutting of the Downtown Monmouth Streetscape Beautification project, City Administrator Lew Steinbrecher informs the project has received an award for the ‘Illinois Project of the Year:’
“We have actually been given an award by the American Public Works Association. It is the ‘Illinois Project of the Year’ for APWA. It was a really good project. We also have the engineers starting the design work on the second grant we got, a $1.5 million with a half million-dollar match by the City. That will be to do the 200 blocks of both North and South Main Street. There is some underground work. We have to replace a water main in the 200 block of North Main and some underground work with sewers on South Main. That will hopefully take place next year and we are gearing up to have this project start late next year or perhaps in 2027.”
City of Monmouth officials will receive the ‘Illinois Project of the Year’ award from the American Public Works Association tonight in Peoria.
