State Representative Norine Hammond says rising insurance premiums are putting major strain on families across the district. She says many residents are struggling to keep up with payments or even find a provider.
“Insurance Premiums are out of sight, and constantly we get calls from constituents that are struggling to make a payment, they’re struggling to find a provider. Oftentimes they may have an underlying condition, and they just simply cannot afford the premium for that. If they are insured, we have a little bit of wiggle room to perhaps work through some of their issues with the insurance companies, but we’re very limited, those are private companies, and we don’t have any authorization there.”
Hammond says her office helps where it can, but private insurance limits how much lawmakers can step in.
