English Language Acquisition classes are available through the Regional Office of Education #33 to educate non-English speaking students on speaking, reading, and writing English. Director of Adult Education Margaret Segersten informs this program can be held on location:
“The English learners, we have availability in Monmouth and Galesburg. We also have another program at Smithfield for the workplace. People are going there and improving their English and being able to communicate better with teachers and doctors for their children. If there any other businesses out there that have a large need for English classes, we can certainly partner with you. Our classes are free, and we can actually host those classes on the worksite.”
Segersten states they work with a program called Burlington English that adapts the curriculum to each language needed.
