Monmouth College and the Maple City are teaming up for a full day of football, food, and fun this Saturday, November 8th as college hosts Community Day on campus to coincide with the Fighting Scots home football game against Ripon. Local fans will be able to enjoy pre-game traditions, a special halftime recognition, and post-game fun, shares Assistant Director of the Monmouth Fund Troy Hippen:
“President Patricia Draves has a really big initiative of getting back in touch with the community and what better way than inviting practically everyone out to the football game to watch us play Ripon. We are going to have a lot of events happening. If you follow Monmouth College on social media, you will receive a free pork chop, currently being provided by Fareway,” states Hippen.
“We will have a ‘Picture Perfect in Plaid,’ which we will have a little photo booth going with our tartan kilts. We will have a bunch of games and activities behind the press box with Monmouth College athletes to play catch with, visit with; just kind of interact with so that way we are showing the community how much we appreciate everything the community does for us, but then also showing the community, the students are a big part of Monmouth. Then, there is also going to be a veteran honoring at the coin toss and during halftime. After the game there will be some football players signing autographs,” Hippen adds.
Community Day is not only a day to celebrate the Scots, but also the local schools and their teams. Fans are encouraged to wear their school spirit gear and welcome the team onto the field by forming a tunnel ahead of the one o’clock kickoff Saturday afternoon inside April Zorn Memorial Stadium.
