In 2001, the Illinois Farm Bureau developed the Adopt-A-Legislator program to build relationships between urban state legislators and farmers from across the state. Recently, the Warren-Henderson Farm Bureau hosted District 45 Representative Martha Deuter, shares Manager Ashlyn Quinn:

“We hosted our new Adopt-A-Legislator, we had Representative Deuter from the 45th District from the Elmhurst area in the suburbs. We just started building our relationship with her and she came and visited us. We took her to Cameron Grain and Jake went through a tour and she got to dump a truck. We took her out to the Moore’s, and she got to harvest and ride in a combine with Ron. I know he talked about this energy bill that we are hearing about in Illinois with her, they talked soybeans, just the general farm economy, and then we headed back to Monmouth to Jamieson Community Center where she got to speak with Nancy.”

To date, county Farm Bureaus have adopted 73 urban legislators through the Adopt-A-Legislator program.
