Despite recent snowfalls, Warren County continues to be in a moderate drought. Warren-Henderson Farm Bureau President Jake Armstrong says the recent snow has provided some moisture, but not enough to significantly improve conditions.

“It takes eight to 10 inches of snow to equal one inch of rain,” Armstrong said. “So, while we’ve received some moisture, it’s not going to amount to much. One positive is that the ground wasn’t frozen solid, allowing some of the moisture from the snow and melt to soak into the soil, instead of running off into creeks and lakes like it does in some years.”

While the snow offered some short-term moisture, additional snow and rainfall will be needed to ease drought conditions heading into spring.
