Loren R. Hunnicutt, 87, formerly of Galesburg, died at 11:36 a.m. Sunday, December 28, 2025, in Washington Senior Living Center, Washington, Illinois.
Loren was born May 6, 1938, in Galesburg, the son of Forrest and Sibbel (Palmer) Hunnicutt. He married Nancy Lavely Hurr on January 5, 1973, in Galesburg. She preceded him in death on February 7, 2025, after more than 52 years of marriage.
He is survived by a son, William R “Randy” (Loretta) Hunnicutt of St. Charles, Missouri; a step-son, Shawn Hurr of St. Charles, Missouri; a daughter, Tammy (Bobby) Barker of Washington, Illinois; a daughter-in-law, Stephanie Witt-Hurr of St. Augustine, Florida; 11 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; with one on the way. In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by his parents; a stepdaughter Jill in 1959; a stepson, Marty in 2020; a daughter-in-law Sandi Hurr; a grandson, Amos Sword; two brothers and two sisters.
Loren spent most of his life in Galesburg. He attended Galesburg High School, graduating in 1957. He went on to Carl Sandburg College and received an associate’s degree in 1974. He worked for 27 years as a Technician for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad, retiring in 2005.
Loren attended the East Galesburg Community Chapel. He served for 13 years with the Galesburg Emergency Police. He served in the United States Air Force from 1957 to 1966.
Graveside service with Military Honors will be 2 p.m. Friday, January 2, 2026, in East Linwood Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to Parkinson’s Foundation.
