Monmouth-Roseville Comes All the Way Back from 22 Point Deficit to Win Consolation Title in Macomb

The Monmouth-Roseville Titans trailed 26-6 to the Liberty Eagles at the end of the first quarter of the Consolation Bracket Championship in the Macomb/Western Holiday Tournament. At one point, the Titans trailed by as many as 22 before rallying for a 51-45 victory. Kaden Russell and Nick Huston each scored 12 points to lead four Monmouth-Roseville players in double figures. Russell ended the game with a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds. After giving a season-high 26 points in one quarter, Monmouth-Roseville held the Eagles to two points in the second quarter on a pair of free throws. The halftime score was 28-21. Midway through the third quarter, the Titans cut the deficit down to two points but Liberty would jack the lead back up to 13 late in the period. Another furious comeback by Monmouth-Roseville gave them their first lead of the game midway through the final period. Late free throws by the Titans would lead to the final score.

Monmouth-Roseville’s tournament started with a 24 point loss to Illini West in the first round. The Titans would bounce back to blowout BPC 65-30. To get to the Consolation title tilt, Monmouth-Roseville defeated Pittsfield 63-36 on Tuesday morning.

Monmouth-Roseville, now (4-7) overall, will travel to the Sandburg Shootout on the campus of Carl Sandburg College to play the Beardstown Tigers on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 3:00 and you can hear it on Sunny 97.7 WMOI.
