United Red Storm Boys Basketball Finish Pre-Christmas Schedule with a Pair of Difficult Match Ups

Story by Parker Cassidy

The (2-5) United Red Storm boys basketball team has not had the start to the season they envisioned, with wins over Augusta Southeastern and Fulton. United has faced some extremely tough early-season matchups, and that trend will not change heading into the weekend with two more challenging games on the schedule.

The Red Storm will take on West Prairie (7-4) Friday night in the final night of the annual United Holiday Tournament, before turning their attention to an unfamiliar opponent Saturday in (5-1) Scales Mound as United heads to the A-Town Great Western Shootout. Head Coach Jason Lancaster says despite the early season struggles, his group has a great opportunity to pick up two quality wins.

United will face West Prairie at 7:30 Friday night in the high school gym at United High School. The Red Storm will then take the short 20-minute bus ride to Abingdon-Avon High School on Saturday for a 12:30 p.m. matchup with the Scales Mound Hornets. The Hornets, who are located in northwest Illinois less than five miles from the Wisconsin border, have a total school enrollment of 68 students. Scales made headlines by qualifying for the class 1A state finals in 2022 and 2023.

We’ll have the Red Storm game against Scales Mound from the shootout on Saturday on AM 1330/FM 95.7 WRAM with the pregame show starting at around noon.
