The Knox County Sheriff’s Office has been made aware of a new scam involving callers claiming to be with the Sheriff’s Office. The scammer tells the victim they have missed a federal court date and must immediately pay money to avoid a warrant or arrest.

THIS IS A SCAM.

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office will NEVER call and demand payment over the phone, through electronic apps, gift cards, or any other method.

Scammers often “spoof” legitimate law enforcement phone numbers to appear real on caller ID—do not trust it.

If you receive a call like this:

🔹 Hang up immediately

🔹 Do NOT send money

🔹 Report it by calling the 24-hour non-emergency Public Safety line at 309-343-9151

Please share to help protect others in our community. Stay aware and stay safe!
