Monmouth College Fighting Scots men’s basketball is off to one of the best starts in program history at 14-4 overall and a perfect 9-0 in Midwest Conference play.

Senior guard Jason Huber says the focus is on continuing to improve as a team.

“We just keep grinding every day and keep playing as a team. Especially these last couple games, we’ve really come together as a team, and if we continue off of that and keep getting better one day at a time, good things will happen.”

Another senior guard for the Scots, Kyle Taylor, also added this regarding the pressure of sitting atop the conference standings.

“I don’t think there is any pressure. Everybody thinks we’re at the top and everybody is going to come for us, but we’ve got goals too. We’re out there to attack everybody else. We came up short last year, and we have a goal to win it this year. I don’t think there should be pressure from people chasing us down. I think we should be putting pressure on other teams that we’re coming for it.”

Monmouth will put their unbeaten conference streak to the test tonight as the Scots return home to Glennie Gym to host Cornell.

The two teams met earlier this season on January 3 in Mount Vernon, where Monmouth rallied from as many as 17 points down to earn a 70-67 victory.

Tonight’s game tips off at 5:30 pm, with the women’s game against Cornell scheduled to follow at approximately 7:30 pm.
