A new SNAP eligibility requirement starts on February 1st. Recipients between 18 and 64 who don’t have dependents under the age of 14 will be required to work or volunteer at least 80 hours a month to keep their benefits. The SNAP program is designed to help low-income people and families buy food. Those who don’t meet the new requirement may only get SNAP for three months in a three-year period. Food pantries are expecting an increase in demand as a result of the new requirement.
