Traffic Stop Leads to Controlled-Substance Arrest

On January 20, 2026, deputies with the Knox County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop in the City of Galesburg after observing a traffic violation involving a red Toyota Camry. During the traffic stop, deputies observed indicators consistent with criminal activity and, in accordance with Illinois law, conducted a lawful search of the vehicle, which resulted in the discovery of a large quantity of suspected illegal controlled-substance pills and a loaded firearm.

The vehicle was subsequently impounded, and further investigation led to a search of a Galesburg residence, where additional suspected controlled substances, packaging materials, and items consistent with drug distribution were recovered.

The total combined weight of the pills recovered from the vehicle and the residence exceeded two kilograms, representing a significant quantity under Illinois law.

👮‍♂️ ARRESTED – Tramir L. Duarte

Galesburg, Illinois

As a result of the investigation, Tramir L. Duarte was taken into custody by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office and charged with the following offenses:

• Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver (Class X Felony)

• Armed Violence (Class X Felony)

• Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver (Class X Felony)

• Possession of a Controlled Substance (Class 1 Felony)

• Possession of a Controlled Substance (Class 1 Felony)

• Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon (Class 4 Felony)

Duarte was transported to the Knox County Jail, where he was processed in accordance with standard procedures and remains in custody pending further court proceedings.

🗣️ Sheriff Jack Harlan Jr. stated that removing illegal drugs and firearms from the community remains a top priority for the Knox County Sheriff’s Office. He emphasized that proactive enforcement efforts are essential to maintaining public safety and protecting the citizens of Knox County.

⚖️ All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
