As flu season continues on, Warren County Health Department Administrator Jenna Link informs flu cases are up, with several mutations of Influenza A being reported as well:

“Flu is up for a couple of reasons; immunizations are down a little bit, people aren’t taking up the seasonal flu vaccine like they normally have, so there are fewer people getting vaccinated, but also, the particular strain that is going around, it is an Influenza A, it has several mutations that actually doesn’t align very well with the seasonal flu vaccine that they put together. So that is part of the problem too. It is kind of bypassing what our baseline immunity level typically is within a community. You are just seeing more people with illness, and this particular strain comes on pretty quickly and it is pretty aggressive. They are having more severe symptoms and really feeling cruddy.”

Administrator Link reports symptoms with the circulating Influenza A and flu cases include severe headache, cough, fever of 100.4 or higher, body and muscle aches, and congestion.
