The Monmouth-Roseville Titans boys basketball team officially wrapped up their 2025-26 season tonight.
The Titans advanced to the regional semifinals after a 62-34 quarterfinal win over football rival Princeton.
That win set up a semifinal matchup with the top-seeded Sherrard Tigers, who had a first round bye. These two teams had already met twice this season, with the Titans winning 44-33 at home just 12 days ago, and the Tigers earning a 64-44 win back in early January.
Everything was on the line in Farmington, with both teams looking to advance to Friday’s regional championship.
Monmouth-Roseville got off to a strong start, capitalizing on early Sherrard turnovers and holding a 13-9 lead early in the second quarter. The Tigers responded though, and took an 18-15 lead into halftime.
The second half was all Sherrard. The Tigers caught fire, pouring in 45 points over the final 16 minutes. Monmouth-Roseville battled throughout but their season comes to an end in the regional semifinal, as they fall 63-40.
Lars Bergren led the way for the Titans with 21 points.
Sherrard improves to 22-7 and will face the winner of Farmington and Kewanee in Farmington on Friday at 7 p.m.
The Titans close the season at 13-18. They will graduate eight seniors from this year’s squad but return some talented pieces as Head Coach Chuck Grant enters his third season back at the helm.
